Kirk Reinert is an American artist based in upstate New York who is best known for his fantasy, horror, and science fiction artwork. He discovered his talent for drawing at a very young age, inspired by his grandfather, a sports cartoonist, and his uncle, an animator.
Kirk graduated from the Cooper School of Art with a degree in production art and design, and although formally trained, he is largely self-taught as a painter. After working in advertising as an illustrator and designer, he established his own studio in 1981 and became one of the leading illustrators in genre publishing. Over his career, he has created more than 200 book covers, including work for Conan the Barbarian and several Clive Barker novels, and has won multiple awards including “Cover Artist of the Year” for Creepy and Eerie magazine covers, as well as several National Best Book Cover awards. His book cover art has also been exhibited at the Society of Illustrators in New York City.
Beyond book illustration, Kirk has worked as a conceptual designer for film, painted album covers (including for the band KISS), and contributed to toy and package design. For the past decades, he has focused on fine art painting, showing his work in galleries across the United States and in Japan. In the 1990s he began a creative collaboration with Lilli Farrell, which expanded his artistic vision and led to annual exhibition tours in Japan.
